For over a quarter of a century, since 1983, Ponacka Alumni have been raising money to send less privileged boys to Ponacka. The boys are
selected from the Big Brothers organization in Peterborough and most attend for several years.
In 2009, the Suns of Sphairee sponsored two boys who attended camp for a month each, both in the August camp. Almost $8,000 was generated this
year by generous Ponackians who recognize the value of a summer at camp.
Excerpts from 2009 letters, thanking the donors, "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to come to this magnificent and fun camp. Because of
you, we get to meet new friends, new people and do things that we canıt do in the city. We get to make goals and we get to try really hard to
achieve them. We have swimming levels that we get to try to pass your level."
"I am in Hillside. I like archery, riding and sailing. Thanks for letting me be here if I wasnıt here I would be at home playing video games
Iım just about to pass my White Sail 1 for sailing I want to thank you very much for letting me come here."
Tim Turnbull (and Hugh Waddell before Tim) have made the SUS program viable by agreeing to write the yearly letter to prospective Ponacka
alumni donors and by keeping track of all the donations. Thank you Tim and thank you to everyone who has made it possible for these boys to
come to Ponacka!
